BOLIVAR, Mo. – In their second weekend of competition, Avila men's volleyball dropped three close sets to Southwest Baptist on Friday, 25-17, 25-13, 25-18.
The Eagles got off to a quick 3-1 start in the opener before Southwest Baptist went on a run. Avila kept it close for the duration of the set, including trailing 19-17 before the home squad wrapped the set on a 6-0 run.
SBU took the second set by 12, but Avila would come back in the third for another tight set, falling by just seven.
Matt Cook led the Eagles with five kills and Alan Uncal-Ramirez led the team with six assists. Sebastian Williams tied for a game-high with four services aces on the night. On the defensive end, Darren Zheng led Avila with eight digs.
Continuing to improve, the young program will head back home for the program's home opener on Tuesday night versus Ottawa. First serve from Mabee Fieldhouse is slated for 7 PM.
