SOFTBALL DROPS TWO ON SECOND DAY OF NAIA INVITATIONAL

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Competing in their third and fourth games of the NAIA Invitational, Avila softball dropped a pair to tough competition on Sunday, falling 7-1 to Baker and losing 7-0 to No. 11 Midland.

In the opener versus the Wildcats, the Eagles got behind early.

Baker scored its first five runs of the game off of extra-base hits, putting Avila in an early hole.

Trailing 7-0 entering the sixth inning, the Eagles were able to get on the board with a bases-loaded walk by Sophia Medina.

Avila was unable to capitalize on its offensive opportunities, stranding 11 runners on base throughout the matchup versus Baker, who was receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings.

The Eagles did not put up much offense in the second game against No. 11 Midland, falling 7-0.

The Warriors put up three runs in the second inning and added four more in the third, sixths and seventh innings to finalize the scoreline.

Avila tallied five base hits and a pair of walks in the game, but could not bring anyone around to score.

A quick turnaround sees the Eagles open up KCAC play on Tuesday, traveling to Southwestern for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 3 PM.
