WOMEN’S SOCCER WINS THIRD-STRAIGHT WITH 1-0 VICTORY AT EVANGEL

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The first career goal from freshman Madison Barnes plus the first career shutout for Mia Kristensen gave Avila women's soccer a 1-0 win over Evangel on Wednesday evening, extending the program's winning streak to three games.

A low-scoring affair in the KCAC opener for Avila saw a total of just 18 shots between the two teams throughout the 90 minutes.

With just three shot attempts in the first half, Avila capitalized and scored early in the game in what turned out to be the only scoring of the night.

Coming off a great cross from Samantha Lasater in the 19th minute, Madison Barnes curled a shot in from 10 yards out into the right corner of the Evangel net to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

It was Barnes' first goal of her young collegiate career and the second assist of Lasater's sophomore season.

In goal for Avila, Mia Kristensen stopped all six shots she faced to record the first shutout of her Avila career and help the Eagles pick up their third-straight victory.

Avila goalkeeping is currently riding a 250-plus minute scoreless streak thanks to shutouts in five-straight halves.

The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways with back-to-back home games at The Z, first taking on York on Saturday at 1 before welcoming Ottawa to Kansas City on October 1 at 1 PM.
