KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Google tells us that recording five-consecutive 2-2 draws has under a one one-millionth of a percent chance of happening, but that was the fate of Avila women's soccer on Saturday as they recorded a 2-2 draw with Bethel at The Z, their fifth-straight 2-2 scoreline.
With constant pressure and recording the majority of possession in the first half, the Eagles got off to a great start when Lauren Jakes notched a tap-in goal in the sixth minute off a corner kick that was bouncing around the box.
Early on, Avila held a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles continued to play strong defense but still allowed a goal in the 35th minute as the two teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
Avila again came out strong in the second half, scoring in the 57th minute.
Off a beautiful through ball from Joselyn Clark, Samantha Lasater scored for the second-consecutive game to give Avila a 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately, when it looked like Avila was back in the win column, Bethel scored a late equalizer.
With just over 60 seconds remaining, the Threshers scored a chip-shot goal just over the head of Avila's Mia Kristensen to knot the game up once again and force Avila into its fifth-consecutive 2-2 tie.
The Eagles will look to break this statistical anomaly and pick up a victory on Wednesday afternoon at The Z, taking on Friends at 12 PM.
