Avila Drops Pair of Matches at Morningside Tri

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Avila volleyball headed north to Iowa for a pair of games against quality competition on Saturday afternoon, and the Eagles (2-7) fell in a pair of straight sets decisions against (17) Jamestown (9-5) and hosts Morningside (8-8).

The Eagles struggled to get their offense in sync all day Saturday. Avila's max points scored in a set was 18, and the team hit in the negatives (more errors than kills) in both matches, both three-set setbacks. Jamestown, the reigning NAIA national champions, slugged over .500 as a team in the first set of the first contest Saturday and never looked back. The Mustangs weren't quite as electric, but they out-blocked the Eagles 7-2 and prevailed in straight sets.

Jamestown rallied to defeat Morningside in five sets in the first match of Saturday's triangular. Against the Eagles, the Jimmies' offense was extremely varied: seven players recorded at least four kills. Diamond Sedlak paced the Eagles with eight kills and nine digs.

The Mustangs' Payten Lode led the pack with a 15-kill, 11-dig showing, and Payton Shoquist led all players with 25 digs. Sedlak paced the Eagles with eight kills as well as a team-high 18 digs; Abigail Blake chipped in 11.

Up next, Avila volleyball will head back to Nebraska to take on Peru State on Tuesday, September 12. First serve is scheduled for 6 PM; details on how to watch and follow along will be posted on our new website, avilaathletics.com.
