WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL LOSES TO NO. 6 MCPHERSON

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Facing a daunting test going up against the sixth-ranked team in the country, Avila women's volleyball put up a tough fight but lost in three sets at McPherson on Saturday.

The hometown Bulldogs took the first two sets, 25-11 before Avila made a game of it in the third.

The Eagles stuck around, never trailing by more than two in the early portion before tying the set up at 14 thanks to a service ace from Sophia Giorgio.

From there, McPherson went on a brief 4-0 run before Avila fought back to keep it within two.

McPherson would wrap the set and match up on a 6-3 run to take the final set, 25-20.

Giorgio finished the match with 14 digs, her 22^nd game this year with double-digit digs.

Avila has just three matches left in the 2025 season and will travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday for a 6 PM start.
