NORTH NEWTON, Kan. – Avila tennis faced a pair of tough challenges on Saturday, taking on Kansas Wesleyan and (RV) Bethel. The men's program highlighted the day with a comeback victory over the Coyotes while the women continued to show signs of growth.
On the men's side against KWU, Avila's Axel Scott and Daniel Lozano picked up a win in #1 doubles.
On the singles side, the Eagles lost their first three matches before Daniel Lozano (#2), Tristan Houchin (#3), Hayden Carillo (#4) and Brendan Honn (#5) won the final four singles matches to give Avila a 4-3 victory over Kansas Wesleyan.
On the women's side, the Eagles got a victory form Alaeyah Chleborad 4-6, 7-6, 10-7 in #3 singles to get a point on the scoreboard.
Both programs faced a tough test in the second competition, taking on Bethel, who is receiving votes in both the men's and women's NAIA rankings.
The Threshers swept Avila 7-0, but the Eagles grew exponentially in the two competitions this weekend.
Avila has a week off for spring break before competing in their first home competition of the season against Friends on March 16 at 2 PM.
